what's that noise???! has moved to a new server and uses a new content management system, which gives us a lot more power to add new fatures. Hang in there while we will experience some transitional problems. These things never go smoothly.

IE6

I noticed that for the last two weeks the site was completely broken and unusable for visitors using the antiquated piece of crap that is IE6. Looking at the logs I also noticed that nearly 30% of IE users still use version 6. Given that IE accounts for 1/3 of all hits, that was a remarkable number of people who weren't able to use the site at all. I went ahead and fixed it, but damn, do yourself a favor and dump that pathetic excuse for a browser, so web designers don't have to waste so much time writing IE6-specific hacks. Get Firefox, Safari, or at the very least upgrade to IE7. Seriously, this is 2008, folks.

If you're still having problems, it's probably because of the cache. Do a hard refresh (hold shift) or manually clear your cache.

Housekeeping

So the move to the new server came about a bit fast, and as you may have noticed, not everything is ready. We'll update all the old content first, and then move over the old user database. You will receive an email with a new password because we can't move the old ones.

Some of the new features of the site are only available to registered users, so sign up if you haven't already. You can now use an OpenID login so you don't have to remember your username and password. Did you know that if you have a Yahoo account, you alread have OpenID? Find out more at Yahoo.com or on OpenId.org.

Ratings System

No, you don't have to leave a comment for every album you download. Of course, comments are appreciated, as they give us encouragement, but it's quite understandable that nobody has something to say about everything. I don't leave as much comments on other blogs as I probably should myself.

What you can do however is rate each entry that you download. Each album page has an easy to use 5-star rating. It takes one second to click on a rating, and it gives us invaluable feedback. In the end this is just as much in your interest as in ours, because maybe, just maybe, we'll post more of that stuff.

Ready for lift off

We're ready and rolling. The first album uploads are coming in. Check the Records Blog and happy listening.
ohh...kinkyOver the next few weeks I'll post a lot of obscure indie, garage, punk, lo-fi, experimental, post-punk, and the occasional jazz albums to get this rolling. If you see something you like, don't forget to leave a comment - this will make it more likely that I'll post something similar in the future. Requests are considered, but they'll have to pass my definition of quality control.

All download links are in the comments of the posts, and you'll have to use good-old-fashioned copy&paste to download any of these. If any link stops working, please leave a comment and I'll try to fix it.
